Hiyama Prefectural Natural Park

A park which is primarily located on the Sea of Japan side of the southwest of Hokkaido. There are many historic and cultural properties. Esashi-cho prospered with herring fishing, and Kamome Island is referenced in the folk song, Esashi oiwake. The scenic spot of Iozan in Kaminokuni is a treasure house of history. There's a mountain castle and Shinto shrine of Takeda, initiator of the Matsumae feudal clan. Also, it's a park abundant in nature with Yakumo's Unseki Pass, Otobe's Cape Tate-no-misaki, the Oyakoguma Rock (massive rock shaped like a mother bear and cub) on the Nagaiso coast in Setana, and Okushiri Island.
