Tokachishikaoi Geopark Visitor Center

You can learn about how the lands of Tokachi and Shikaoi were formed, and how the people and animals live there, under the theme of "the tale of life raised by volcanoes and shibare (the freezing cold)" at the Tokachishikaoi Geopark Visitor Center.
"Shibare" is an expression used in the Hokkaido dialect to refer to the severe cold weather.

You can hold and compare the stones of Hokkaido's geopark at the entrance.

Please go ahead and feel the weight!

Using projection mapping and sand and water, the guide clearly explains how the land of Shikaoi was formed.

There are displays of the fish, Salvelinus malma miyabei inhabiting only Lake Shikaribetsu, minerals such as opals collected in the Shikaoi neighborhood, and more.

* About mineral collecting, please be aware that there are places regulated by laws.
